This summer, the Art Station will be holding a 9-day Bellydance camp called “Bellydance Sampler”, taught by members of the High Desert Bellydance Guild.
Class will take place T-TH, June 20-July 7, from 6-9pm at the Art Station, 313 SW Shevilin-Hixon Ave.

Class description: Bellydance has come a long way in the last decade. Here is an opportunity to learn some fundamental techniques, while trying out different styles with instructors from the High Desert Bellydance Guild, including American Tribal Style, Tribal Fusion, and Turkish Rom.
Instructors include: Rasha, Jerusha, Kamini, Raqsafara, Quinn Donovan, Kathy Stahlman, Sahara, with costuming instruction by Sahirrnee, rhythm instruction with Dave Goodman.

Gypsy Fire Bellydance returns to the Taj Palace for our First Friday performances, May 6! Come savor the exotic flavors of India, and enjoy some mesmerizing, energetic, and improvised Tribal Bellydance! 2 shows, starting around 6:45 pm. As always, shows are family-friendly. Lots of events of interest to bellydancers at the Bend Spring Festival this weekend! Americanistan (Sat., 11am) and Brothers of the Baladi (Sat., 4:30pm) will be performing! Also, dance troupes Artemis Tribal Belly Dancing / Sisters of the Desert Moon. And, Rasha will be giving workshops for kids (Sat. at 2pm, and Sun., 11am, not the time listed at the link), and will be performing roving drum solos with Dave Goodman on doumbek (Sat., 3pm).

“High Desert Bollywood” Workshop Details:
1) 10am-12:00pm: Temple Bollywood
In this class, Samantha will help you train your body to project emotion through the use of Indian postures and classical hasta mudras (“hand positions”), plus teach graceful transitions and foot placement so you will feel centered and grounded no matter what your dance background!
You will be able to apply your newfound knowledge across all disciplines and in your everyday life. By the end of the workshop you will be able to perform a “Bollyasana” that can be used as a warm-up or as a performance piece. Open to all levels and to dancers from other disciplines. Please wear form-fitting workout/dance clothes that enable you to see your body position easily. If you need knee or ankle support to do deep knee bends, please bring it.
2) 1:30-3:30pm: Bollywood via Punjab
Bhangra meets Bollywood in this spirited new choreography by Samantha, specifically geared to give a taste of both styles. You will learn steps, hand positions and poses from the Bollywood style and how to transition into the athletic exuberance of Bhangra. Alternative moves will be provided for those with knee or ankle issues. Be sure to wear pants under your skirts, there will be twirling!
